Implants and Overdentures

For the patient who has lost all upper and lower teeth and who cannot have full implant and bridgework replacement then as an alternative the patient may wish have dental implants and over dentures.

An over-denture connects implants which have been fixed in the jaw. The part of the denture overlying the dental implants is modified to retain special clips called OT caps. These keep a denture securely in place while eating and speaking but still allow easy self-removal of the denture for cleaning purposes.

The price of 4 implants and an over denture for each of top and bottom jaws is €4300 or €8600 for total replacements.

A full unsupported denture is difficult for many patients to wear and get used to. Sore spots and difficulty chewing are caused when a denture moves around in the mouth. Over time the dental ridges required to support a denture will shrink due to bone loss with the problem of keeping dentures in place. Implants will stop bone loss in the area of the implant.

Implants can be utilized to hold the denture in place. There will be a major improvement in fit and function.

Lower dentures may only require 2 implants to properly hold them in place for normal function, one on each side. This would reduce the price of the lower by €1300. Additional implants will provide additional stability.

Patients who have dental implants report the following benefits:

  • Better ability to chew
  • Improved appearance
  • Be more confident
  • Maintain a healthier diet
  • Are happier and feel better about themselves.
